Vision
SoSE = Summer of Software Engineering
.
WOW = Window on the World
.
SoSE is a long-range project; WOW is a short-term project to drive SoSE forward.
Academia may teach students to write programs but there doesn't seem to be an organized effort teaching students how to systematically develop a substantial software project, especially as a team. This is a problem, and we're working to solve it.
SoSE, through well planned and comprehensive projects, affords College faculty, staff, and students a means to explore best practice team software development processes, project techniques, tools, and development infrastructures.
Every software developer should know and use all of these methods, yet many do not. Graduates should gain valuable experience during their college years living in these practices through projects, yet very few do so in a structured and consistent manner.
This summer, the WOW Project will contribute to the SoSE mission by consistently bringing best practices and tools to Vermont Tech students being trained as software engineers via integration into curricula. Doing so will provide the opportunities for everyone involved to engage in efficient and effective software engineering.
